PDO THREADS

Home / PDO THREADS

Are you ready to rejuvenate your appearance by tightening loose skin and lifting facial features that have begun to sag? Until recently, a surgical facelift was your only option. A new treatment can accomplish those goals with no incisions and minimal downtime. A PDO Thread treatment at The Dallas Botox Cosmetic, TX is a powerful tool when it comes to fighting back against signs of aging.

What Is a PDO Thread Treatment?

This treatment involves placing threads beneath the skin in a way that subtly lifts and tightens it. The presence of the threads also stimulates the production of collagen, a protein that keeps our skin strong and supple.  The threads dissolve naturally after about six months, but the results of this treatment will last even longer. Patients often enjoy the results of this treatment for as long as 18 months to two years.  The threads that are used aren’t threads in the traditional sense. They’re made out of a surgical suture material called polydioxanone, which has been widely and safely used in cardiovascular surgery and for other medical purposes as well. The threads are placed beneath the skin using a needle. But don’t worry because your skin will have been completely numbed in advance. You won’t feel a thing.

What Cosmetic Issues Does This Help With?

This treatment can be used to address a host of cosmetic concerns, including forehead creases, crepey skin, sagging jowls, and deep lines that sometimes form on either side of the mouth. Thread treatments can even help lift and restore contour to the cheeks.

How Long Does Treatment Take?

Threading treatments are performed in our office and can usually be completed in less than an hour.

Will I Need to Set Aside Time for Recovery?

Most patients find that they need minimal time for recovery. Most patients can get back to their normal routine right away. We’ll ask that you handle the treatment area with care for a couple of weeks, and you may be advised not to schedule certain cosmetic treatments immediately after threading.

How Long Will I Have to Wait to See Tighter, Firmer Skin?

You’ll see some improvement in your skin almost instantly because the threads will lift the skin as soon as they are in place. But because this treatment also stimulates collagen production, a process that takes time, your skin will continue to improve in texture and appearance in the weeks to come. Your results will have fully developed in about six months.

Will I Need to Schedule Maintenance Treatments?

A single threading treatment offers long-lasting results that don’t need follow-up treatments. When the results eventually begin to wear off, some patients then consider another treatment to preserve their look.

Is This Treatment Safe?

Yes. This treatment has been approved by the FDA and is widely used on patients with all skin types and tones.

What Is the difference between PDO Barbs And PDO Mesh Techniques?

There are 2 different types of PDO threads and techniques. Type 1 Barb Threads: These sutures are used for the PDO Lift technique. These threads have tiny barbs on the entire length of the thread to gather tissue to lift the cheeks and sagging skin of where the threads are placed. This technique produces a more dramatic and immediate result. The skin will then build new collagen which will secure the lift and give the lift a longer-lasting result. Type 2 Smooth & Twist Threads: These sutures are used for the Mesh technique. These threads are smaller than the barbed sutures and are smooth (no barbs on the thread). These threads are placed under the skin vertically and horizontally to create a “mesh. This Mesh will serve as the foundation for new collagen production in the skin. The results appear naturally and gradually to improve fine lines and to firm the skin.

Why Should I Consider This Treatment?

Convenience

If you’re interested in tightening and lifting your face, but you don’t want an invasive treatment that will require significant downtime, a threading treatment could be just what you’re looking for.  This approach to facial rejuvenation requires no incisions, no scars, and little in the way of preparation by the patient. Putting your best face forward has never been so easy.

Custom Approach

Each patient ages differently and has a unique set of cosmetic concerns. For some patients, volume loss in the cheeks is their primary frustration. Others want to smooth and firm skin that has become crepey.  Threading treatments can be customized for each individual. Your thread treatment can be further personalized by combining it with one or two of our other permanent cosmetics services.

Natural Results

Although this treatment will immediately improve the look of your skin, your results will continue to develop as collagen production kicks in. The gradual way your results develop will be completely natural.  You’ll never look as though you suddenly went and had cosmetic work done. Instead, you’ll look as though you’ve been taking great care of your skin and your overall health.

Comprehensive Facial Rejuvenation

Threading is much more than a spot corrector. This treatment can be used to renew your face.  It helps with filling in fine lines to lifting to contouring the face.

Long-Lasting Results

Most patients enjoy their threading results for 18 months or more. This is much longer than many dermal fillers and botulinum toxin injections. If you don’t want to fool around with frequent maintenance treatments, threading treatments are a nice option.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

If you’re interested in learning if you’re a PDO thread candidate, the first step is to schedule a consultation with the friendly professionals at our practice. During your consultation, we’ll review your medical history, evaluate your skin, and talk with you about your cosmetic concerns and goals.  We’ll work with you to determine if a threading treatment is the best option for you. There are several signs that you may be an especially good candidate.

You’re Bothered by Signs of Aging

Ideal candidates are experiencing drooping brows, sagging cheeks, crepey skin, or other early signs of aging.  These patients are bothered by the cosmetic changes they’re noticing and eager to minimize them. Threading treatments help them regain confidence in their appearance and feel great about themselves.

Wrinkles Aren’t the Only Problem

Wrinkles are a common aging concern, but we already offer other wrinkle-busting treatments. Because thread treatments can comprehensively improve the face, they are an especially good option for patients who are worried about more than lines and creases.

Your Overall Health Is Good

It helps if you’re in good general health. This treatment is also not recommended for women who are pregnant or who are currently breastfeeding.

You Have Healthy Skin

For us to perform a thread treatment, your skin needs to be healthy and free of infection and inflammation.

You Understand the Treatment

The best patients are emotionally healthy, understand the treatment and the outcomes it offers, and are realistic about the results they will achieve.

How Do PDO Threads Compare to Other Treatments?

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injectable gels made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that plumps and hydrates the skin. Once in place, fillers lift the skin and add volume. Many patients turn to fillers to smooth over wrinkles and folds.  Dermal fillers, like threading treatments, can be administered quickly and involve very little downtime. One advantage of PDO thread treatments is their long-lasting results and their ability to comprehensively rejuvenate the face rather than one particular spot.

Botulinum Toxin Injections

Botox is a treatment that contains small amounts of botulinum toxin. Botox injections temporarily ease the look of frown lines, crow’s feet, and other fine lines. These cosmetic injections are quick, easy, and they offer fast results.  An advantage associated with PDO threads is that they don’t just smooth over a very specific wrinkle: they can be used to broadly lift and tighten the face. And thanks to the additional collagen production threading treatments stimulate, the skin becomes firmer and plumper.

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound tightens skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles using ultrasound technology. This treatment uses a focused energy beam to stimulate collagen production and erode body fat, resulting in firmer skin. Depending on the severity of your cosmetic concern, High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound may be used in combination with threading treatments.

PDO Thread Q&A

What Is the Best Age to Seek This Treatment?

There is no magic age a patient should pursue a thread treatment. Everyone ages at their own pace and the signs of aging show up at different times and in different ways for each individual.  The right age to consider a thread treatment is whenever you notice crepey skin, sagging features, or other symptoms that you want to address.

Is This Treatment Ever Performed Elsewhere on the Body?

The face and neck are the most popular areas for this treatment, but threads can be used almost anywhere on the body. This treatment is sometimes used to lift loose skin on the upper arms or around the knees. It has also been used on the stomach.

Is This Treatment Suitable for Men?

Yes, both men and women who are concerned about signs of aging can benefit from this treatment.

Why Is My Skin Beginning to Sag?

Most of us find that maintaining a skincare regimen and staying out of the sun doesn’t completely ward off signs of aging. As we age, collagen levels begin to decline, and so does the fat that gives the face its natural contour.  Genetics, lifestyle choices, and a history of smoking can all influence the way our skin ages. Unfortunately, we can’t completely control the way our skin ages, which is why treatments like PDO thread treatments are so popular.

How Can I Tell Which Treatment is Best for Me?

You don’t have to decide on your own which treatment to pursue. We offer a host of services, and we can help determine which ones will best meet your needs. We may even recommend a combination of services.  We offer world-class beauty innovations at affordable prices. And our recommendation will be guided by the way your face is aging and whether sagging skin, sinking features, or wrinkling is your primary concern.

Can You See the Threads Once They Are in Place?

The threads will not be visible beneath the skin. Patients with thin skin sometimes say they can feel the threads when they press on the treatment area. But since the threads will gradually dissolve, the ability to feel them by touch will decline over time.

How Many Threads Are Used?

Once we’ve evaluated your skin and talked with you about your cosmetic goals, we’ll be able to make a specific recommendation about the number of threads for you. Placing three or four threads beneath the skin on each side of the face is fairly common.

How Can I Best Maintain My Results?

You won’t have to take any extraordinary steps to keep up your results. The best approach will be to maintain a healthy skin care regimen. This is including regular cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing, avoiding excessive sun exposure, drinking plenty of water, and eating a healthy diet.
